Fermentation Instead of Embalming
Fruity Puppy uses Leucidal Plus, a preservative system made from fermented Lactobacillus — the same family of bacteria behind kimchi, sourdough, and yogurt. Instead of a synthetic compound designed to kill indiscriminately, it's a filtrate produced by beneficial bacteria as they ferment, carrying natural antimicrobial peptides that protect the formula the way fermentation has protected food for thousands of years.
The difference matters for your skin specifically. Your skin isn't sterile — it hosts its own living microbiome, which helps regulate inflammation, defends against pathogens, and keeps your barrier intact. A synthetic, broad-kill preservative doesn't know the difference between the microbes it's protecting the jar from and the microbes living on your face. A fermented, bacterially-derived preservative works with that ecosystem instead of steamrolling it.

Why This Was Never a Trend Play for Us
We didn't add fermentation because postbiotics are having a moment. We built Fruity Puppy Original around the idea that freshness is a spectrum — that a cream sitting on a shelf for two years, chemically frozen in time, isn't actually better for your skin than something alive and changing, just because it's more convenient to manufacture.

The product is built for daily use at room temperature — it doesn't require refrigeration to stay safe — but we chose fermentation over synthetic stabilizers because a living formula stays honest about what it actually is, even if that means it's a little more dynamic than a shelf-stable one.
